Ogoljelim, minimalističkim sabiralištem etna, čardaša i bluesa, Miroslav Evačić u društvu životne i glazbene partnerice Gordane Evačić godinama već traje tiho poput mirnog toka spomenute rijeke.

Osluškivanjem žubora korita rijeke Drave, Miroslav je kako u kojem segmentu karijere namjerno zanemario čardaš, ističući blues korijene svom podravsko-međimurskom etnu i folku.

Indeed, it took some courage to compile a collection of greatest hits after so many years of systematic negligence and marginalization of character, work and oeuvre of Miroslav Evačić, a delta blues performer from the area of Koprivnica city and the nearby Drava river, who earned his reputation as a member of a local band Ščukin Berek. By combining a stripped-down, minimalist version of ethno, csárdás and blues, Miroslav Evačić, together with his life and music partner Gordana Evačić, silently keeps on going for years, like a calm stream of the said Drava river.

And here we have a man whose instrumental, arranging and author's touch – without making any adjustments of foreign criteria to the circumstances of local music scene – could have easily be regarded as a truly masterful one. After his encounter with the overseas thanks to the British fRoots, the inert local media started a domino effect by publishing a couple of befitting texts noting Miroslav’s charming lo-fi mix of acoustic genres, promoting him into a sort of an ethnographic sui generis, basing this conclusion on his indigenous image rather than on knowledge of his music. The secret to his charm lies in a substantial simplicity and the endeavor to demystify his love for the music. There isn’t much PR mumbo-jumbo here fabricating his personal life – enjoying the music always was and remained in his main focus. And that’s what makes him different, not his long beard or a braided hairstyle.

By listening to the gurgle of Drava’s riverbed Miroslav – depending on the moment of his career – purposefully disregarded csárdás, and accentuated those blues roots of his Podravina-Međimurje ethno and folk music. This compilation, made by cherry-picking the works from his albums, carries one common notion, and that is authenticity. Be it traditional songs arranged in his "dry" style, or his own equally bare-boned works, Evačić & Co. remained as one of those who are to be trusted. The only thing he is missing is a bit of Ry Cooder, Peter Gabriel or Paul Simon – each in their respective stage of world music exploration – to initiate the salvage of a barely nonexistent local music scene from the margins, and to acquaint the world with one of the rare pearls whose work is concurrent in every aspect with aesthetically similar artists, regardless of where you look at the music map of the world.
